Had a wonderful weekend with good friends celebrating a marriage. One of those times when life seems so wonderful and so short at the same time (and possibly for the same reason.....)

Went to Shepparton - haven't been there for years - and saw the wonderful public art in the form of cows.... all sorts of decorated cows..... wandered around with friends looking at the art work and admiring the humour, compassion and outrageousness of all of the designs.... I will go back!

One of my very favourite authors - who left us with 50 books which only improve upon re-reading.

Had a wonderful day yesterday with Mr. Chip. We had Maccas for breakfast, which he informs me "is the second time I have had breakfast at McDonald's IN MY LIFE!" He didn't recall when the 1st time was, but assures me it was at Diamond Creek. Later in the day we went into the Treasury Gardens to the indigenous get-together. It was great fun listening to the music, loitering with some intent at the stalls and eventually getting Mr Chip a didgeridoo. After one brief lesson from the guy who sold it to us Mr Chip became an expert. The guy was amazed he picked it up so quickly. A very haunting sound!! On the way home we stopped off for a game of pool (as you do) and finished off a great and memorable day. Bliss!!

Took photos of past premiers statues and some dolls in Fitzroy too. Lovely!!

I owe, I owe, so off to work I go :-)
Very busy day today so hoping it will be slower and quieter tomorrow. Listening to other people's sadnesses sure puts my own in perspective!
It's time like this when I go back and look at some of the lovely photos I've taken around the place lately ... I'm lucky I have a beautiful garden....

One of those days. Learned of the terminal illness of a good friend; worked hard on developing programs on loss and grief for sessions throughout the year (60 booked so far); supervised three viewings for families at one of our chapels. Three overtly distressed families being cared for by one inwardly distressed worker. Life is nothing if not ironic! One day, 1,000 years ago, I commented to a client that while I didn't and couldn't know the depth of her grief I did, however, know what is was like to suddenly lose a husband. "Oh" she said in a shocked voice "I didn't ever think that you people experienced death."  Perhaps she thinks that funeral companies employ robots!

Inspired again by the work of others .... so much has happened since I last posted .... no need to go over it, suffice it to say life has changed a lot and my house-mate (my Dad) is no longer physically with me. Of course every time I look around our home I 'see' him amongst things like the garden we created together, the colours we chose for various rooms, etc.

Work is a bit slower than it will be in a month or so - not many places wanting education/training sessions while staff are away on school holidays, etc. Lots of lovely time to catch up on all the BORING stuff - setting up 2009's files, recording admin stuff for 2008. Not the favourite pastimes of a Gemini!! :-)

Have been to Echuca for work and took some time by the Murray listening to the magpies and a flock - yes a flock - of kookaburras laughing their heads off at a shared joke. I couldn't help but laugh out aloud too.

And then there was the wonderful smiley face in the sky which my camera reproduced somewhat inadequately, but enough to remind me of another happy moment.

Welcome 2009.... I wonder what you will offer us?

Wintry Melbourne, grey skies, rain. Beautiful. Lucky are we, in warm houses.

Recently I have taken a number of photos around Melbourne which show its beauty even in the midst of winter.

I have been blessed with a grandson. He has given me insights into the 'small' achievements in life.....

The cooking of biscuits!

The new knowledge of how to tie a shoelace.

What blessings!

Had an interesting experience the other day. I was able to see behind the scenes at a business that has existed in the inner city since 1853. The street facade is old in appearance, but does nothing to hint at the almost Dickensian appearance behind the scenes.

I wonder at how may such gems are hiddden away in our city..... places which would make wonderful film sets.

I suppose so much in life that is interesting is also hidden .....

Rules:
Post 3 things you've done that you believe nobody else on your F-list has done.
Indulge in remorse if someone calls you out on a listed item.

1) Worked as a producer of national radio programs for ABC
2) Worked as a civil funeral celebrant ( about 700 funerals)
3) Given birth to BekyTG    :-)

Phew!  No-one can call me on 3)  :-)

Life goes on a bit at the moment..... I try to remember that so many in the world would think my life was bliss..... I don't have to hunt for food, I have a roof over my head a and a bed to sleep in, I know where all my family members are..... so much we can take for granted and yet millions cannot say the same.

Where were you when JFK was killed on 23 November 1963?
I was on Spencer Street Station (as it was called until recently) and was on my way with my family to visit grandparents in the country. It was my Dad's birthday (as we got the news on 23rd Nov).
Where were you when the first man stepped on the moon on 20th July 1969?
In Frankston hospital with the most beautiful 5 day old baby girl you could ever imagine...
Where were you when you saw Star Wars for the 1st time in 1977?
With the baby girl who had grown up a bit :-)

Where were you heard that John Lennon was murdered on December 8th, 1980?
At home in Diamond Creek - I was stunned.

Where were you when you heard that Lindy Chamberlain was convicted of murder in 1982?
In my car and I had to pull to the side of the road. I never believed she was guilty.

Where were you when Live Aid was shown around the world on TV on the 13th July, 1985?
In my den with a friend drinking port and trying to ignore the sleep-over in the lounge-room :-)

Where were you when the Challenger Shuttle exploded on the 28th January, 1986?
At home and stunned at the news.

Where were you when the Berlin Wall was felled on 9th November, 1989?
Living in Fitzroy - I couldn't believe I'd lived to see the day it fell. I could remember clearly when it was erected - there was even a song on the top of the charts called 'West of the wall, where hearts are free' which spoke of a boy and girl in love who'd been separated by the wall.

Where were you when Princess Diana died on 31st August, 1997?
At home in Carlton. I cried and cried and remember how my daughter and her partner came for dinner a few days later and we watched the funeral on tv and cried.
Where were you when Mother Teresa died on 5th September, 1997?
At work and couldn't believe another 'icon' had died.

Where were you when Michael Hutchinson was found dead on 22nd November, 1997?
And another one ......

Where were you when the two planes hit the Twin Towers on 11th of September in 2001?
I was staying with Mr Chip while his parents were away. I was about to turn the tv off and saw the newsflash - thought it was a disaster movie and then ......    stood and watched in shock and then raced into Mr Chip's bedroom and held him in his sleep and kissed him and wondered what on earth was going to happen as a result. Then I rang a friend in New York and asked how he was. He didn't know it had happened as he'd slept in. He looked out his window and said 'omigod the second tower is being hit'. It was surreal - this phone call across the world at such a time.

Confession time:-)

Yesterday I posted a photo I took in Wisconsin USA just over 8 years ago. Was visiting with my sister, the famous children's book illustrator, while she did some lectures, visits, etc. on an exchange program. I made a very close friend while there and GB and I still regularly email. Life brings us many gifts.....
Anyway, the sculpture was one of a number on display in the grounds of a Museum and the snow fall made it even more interesting. I have a framed print of this in my kitchen along with other travel photos.

This is another photo I love that I took overseas. In the centre of the business district of London sits the remains of St Dunstan's Church. It was bombed in the London Blitz. Rather than pull down the surviving walls, they have created a peaceful space inside the walls where people once sat in pews. It is a wonderful oasis for office workers to experience peace..... This photo was taken on Good Friday 1998 - for the historically minded you will recall it was the day the peace agreements were signed between England and Ireland ending the tragedy of the civil war between the IRA and the English Army.

Winter already. My grandson was staying over the other night - we stayed up watching tv so it was very late when we were nearly asleep .... suddenly in the darkness, from his fold-up bed across the room came ..."Nonna! It's 1/4 to Winter!!'  And, yes, it was 11.45 p.m. on 31st May. So ... 15 minutes until it would get cold :-)

A local treasure

Yesterday I went for a drive to blow the cobwebs out of my head ... and there are a lot of them!

Went north from home for about 40 minutes and drove into the Yan Yean reservoir reserve. As I drove in through the gates, slowly, I stopped while a group of kangaroos slowly and quietly hopped across in front of me ... I counted 12 of them and saw at least two with joeys. Didn't have the camera handy, but took in the image into my memory. A beautiful sight.

The reservoir is down at the moment and you can see from the bank how much water we are lacking. This is the reservoir that feeds straight into Melbourne's water from the north. In fact the underground pipes from it go past the end of our street.

Wintry Melbourne!

Cold mornings .... and why are we surprised? Because these are the coldest May mornings in Melbourne for many decades.... I recall that this time last year the weather was quite warm ... even went without a woolly top outside!

The grey was lightened by some birthday flowers which are brightening the house...

A lovely day

Had a wonderful afternoon today. Melbourne cold, rainy and blustery wind. Took the advice of my daughter and sister and went to see the Medieval Illuminations exhibition at the State Library. Such beauty ...we are privileged to be able to see first hand the work of centuries ago.
Afterwards I was prompted to visit the Catholic cathedral, St. Patrick's, a favourite quiet place of mine.  Perhaps my favourite statue in Melbourne is in the forecourt ... Archbishop Daniel Mannix. A stern and patriarchal figure who was, nevertheless, loved by the working class of Melbourne. This statue seemed to suit the weather, with the Archbishop looking as if his cloak was being blown in the wind.

The inside of the cathedral was golden in the light through the stained glass windows ... a gentle feeling and I reflected on the countless thousands who have gathered there with hopes and dreams in their hearts over the last century or so. My late mother-in-law was married there, a wonderful site for a wedding.

On roller-blades - well, it feels like it!

Busy week. Six workshops of 3 hours each around Melbourne - public hospitals, aged care facilities, churches. And then my house-mate ends up in hospital for a few days. He'll be home tomorrow, but each night after work I've been visiting him - he feels lonely in hospital and I can't imagine what it would be like to be 90 years old and be there without anyone familiar coming in for a chat. No photos this time around - it's been too busy to stop and think until after dark :-)

chatting with a friend today about how lucky we are to have our daughters - she too has just one and we congratulated ourselves on having great relationships with them .....

I was thinking tonight of one of my very favourite photos of my daughter and me ..... her Dad took it of us about 1,000 years ago :-) I think it says it all really .....

I'm so lucky in my life with so much beauty around me.... the other day at work I took these inside and outside photos .....

Many who attend the venue for funerals tell us how peaceful the setting is, despite being on a main road. It's easy to see why they say so ......

And then at home, the garden is looking lovely with the autumn rose blooms .....

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

Very interesting ...... although not feeling like a High Priestess much at the moment :-)

Looking forward to a day off tomorrow, and then back to work on Sunday. Must admit that work does make me feel useful, I am fortunate to have a profession which leaves us all with the feeling of being able to assist others when they need support. I spent the afternoon listening to some brave men and women who are dealing with many difficulties .... came home tired but feeling immensely privileged to have been entrusted with their stories......

The good news is that Collingwood isn't playing this week so we can't lose! :-)  But I miss the time with Mr Chip who brings energy and enthusiasm into any space he enters.
